The Preacher's Pen
by Mark RobertsIn just a few days Tony Mauck will be with us, preaching the Word of God in his own unique way. Tony has been here several times before. We are well familiar with his quality work and know that he will do his part. The only question is, "Will we?" Think carefully about what the Lord expects from you in this meeting effort. Will you be doing your part?
-
Will you pray for Tony's safe arrival, wisdom in choosing sermons, and boldness as he preaches God's word?
-
Will you pray for opportunities to invite friends, co-workers, family members and others to come and hear what will surely be a feast in God's word?
-
Will you pray for yourself, that your own heart will be open to God's word?
-
Will you be ready to receive it and allow it to have its corrective and instructive force in your life?
Praying for this meeting is important, isn't it? However, there is more than just prayer needed.
-
Will you invite others? It's not enough to hope "they" will ask someone. You need to specifically target people who you believe need the Gospel and might be interested enough in New Testament Christianity to come. Then you need to invite them.
-
Will you be here yourself? There is never a meeting scheduled that the elders don't hear from folks about schedule conflicts. Yes, there will be other items on your agenda the week of the meeting. Yes, you still need to be here. Life is complex, and it requires choices. Deal with it. No excuses needed, or necessary. Make the right choice and be at the meeting.
We can have a fantastic meeting with a preacher of Tony's ability. Plan now to do your part to make this a great Gospel meeting!
