Spritual Insurance
by Josh NaylorTry to complete these catchy phrases: ""You're in good hands with..."" or ""Get Met, it...."" That is right - these are all insurance slogans. Why do people have insurance? Why would people dish out so much money for something that has such little obvious importance? Maybe they want to make sure that if something happens to themselves or their belongings that everything will be taken care of or made alright. Sure, you don't seem to need to have insurance all the time, but what if you get in a car wreck or your house catches on fire or if you suddenly become ill? These are all things that could certainly happen at any given second, without any warning.
Thinking about insurance can be applied not only to our physical well-beings but also to our spiritual well-being. God provides insurance for our souls. Unlike worldly insurance though, where you have to choose if you want car insurance, health insurance, fire insurance, etc., the Lord has made it easy for us. He has given us just one kind of insurance: the Bible. In this book He tells us of how His salvation is for everyone and how it is obtained and what the benefits of it are. He tells us that if death comes upon our physical bodies we can be reassured that he will take care of our spiritual bodies. John 14:2-3 says, ""In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."" That is why it is so important for us as children of God to make sure that we have His insurance.
When purchasing worldly insurance, one must diligently search for the correct policy that will insure them that if something were to happen. People are always looking for the insurance policy with the best benefits. Who wants to put forth all of the time and effort and especially the money if your insurance benefits aren't going to be what they're all cracked up to be? As God's children, we should do the same. There are many false forms of spiritual insurance in our world today. People claim that by worshiping the Lord in their own way, you can still be reassured a home with Him in heaven. That is why we must search for the answers for ourselves, and not rely on others to make sure that what we are doing is right. We can't just hope that what we are doing is right. Doing such means our insurance benefits are going to be insecure. Not to worry! When we follow the Lord as He clearly instructs us in the Bible, He will hold up His part of the bargain and save us.
One thing we all know is that worldly insurance can break your pocket book. It is getting so expensive now days to pay for the stuff. But we have to have it. One of the great things about our spiritual insurance is that it has already been paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ. ""In Him we have redemption through His blood the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace"" (Ephesians 1:7). All that we have to do is take it by trusting and obeying. The Lord wants us to have His insurance but he has left it up to us to choose it correctly and to keep up our part of the bargain. Do you have the Lord's insurance?
