The Preacher's Pen

by Mark Roberts

I received this as part of my friend Warren Berkley's excellent Monday Messages. If you don't get these free weekly devotional emails drop Warren a line (wberkley@flash.net) and ask to be included. You will profit from these studies he mails out each Monday morning. This was the study several weeks ago. Read it carefully and see if you don't think persistence is an important part of spirituality.

"I ran across something on the subject of persistence some time ago. I thought this was good. Written by Herman Sherman, called The Code of Persistence, I've adapted it to spiritual purposes as follows:

1. I will never give up so long as I know I am right, and I am serving God.

2. I will believe that all things will work out if I hang on to the end.

3. I will be courageous and undismayed in the face of risks and odds.

4. I will not permit anyone to intimidate me or deter me from my goal to honor Christ.

5. I will fight to overcome all physical handicaps, setbacks and disappointments.

6. I will try again and again and yet again to accomplish what pleases God, and to do so with a pleasant disposition.

7. I will take courage in the knowledge that all godly men and women had to fight defeat and adversity.

8. I will never surrender to the devil - no matter what kind of obstacles he may throw in my way."

Thanks Warren. Such is the stuff that strengthens us to continue to pursue real spirituality.
